Description
St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) is a secular and private institution for higher learning owned and managed by the Catholic Church.
Programmes
- Ph.D. in Mass Communication
- The Doctor of Philosophy in Mass Communications, offered by the School of Communications at SAUT, was introduced in 2009. According to SAUT, it is the only such programme in Tanzania. The programme seeks to provide research and professional education to equip students with the knowledge needed to process symbols for creating, analysing, and disseminating messages.
The objectives of this 18-36 month, full-time, 36-credit-hour “taught doctorate” include: - Developing a strong command of mass communication theory and familiarity with theoretical traditions in Africa;
- Capacity building for research and consultancy, including work for media, industry, and other universities and institutions of higher learning; and
- Developing capacity for original theoretical and policy-oriented research and scholarly publication.
The Ph.D. in Mass Communications offers the following specialisations: - Journalism and communication ethics, law, and regulation
- Media management, planning, and public policy
- Communication and socio-economic development
- Public relations, advertising, and marketing
- International communication

Entry requirements:
1. MA or equivalent in communications or cognate fields, such as sociology or political science, from recognised institutions of higher learning.
2. Previous industry or field research/teaching experience preferable.
3. Perfect command of good English.
4. Readiness to dedicate to full-time coursework and research over a period of at least three years.
