AfricaAdapt Knowledge Sharing Innovation Fund

Region

Africa

Deadline Date

August 20, 2010

The AfricaAdapt Knowledge Sharing Innovation Fund seeks to support small-scale projects that offer innovative and practical ideas for communicating and sharing knowledge on climate change adaptation strategies. It is aimed at initiatives proposed by African research groups, community-based organisations, co-operatives, networks, and other local institutions in either urban or rural locations.

The fund is looking for examples of innovative knowledge sharing which could include knowledge sharing activities from the performing arts (theatre performances, songs etc.), radio/television broadcasts and phone-ins, artwork, videos, comics, etc. The essential element is that it engages economically poor and/or marginalised groups in ways from which they can learn and share useful knowledge on climate change. AfricaAdapt plans to fund 6 projects. As a guideline, budgets should not exceed $US$6,500.

Proposals should seek to address one of the following adaptation issues and principles:

  1. Creating awareness of climate change, including vulnerability, impacts, and adaptation, particularly among marginalised communities.
  2. Conservation of the environment (sustainable agriculture, desertification, livestock, forestry, livelihoods, etc.) threatened by climate change.
  3. Issues connecting health and climate change.
  4. Urban infrastructure and climate change.
  5. Disaster risk reduction and climate change.
  6. Gender and climate change.
  7. Children and climate change.
  8. Promoting the principle of inclusion considering marginalised groups (women, children, disable, and the elderly) and indigenous communities.
  9. Other similar concerns, which the applicant will need to explain.
