The above is only a partial definition of journalism and not the most salient. Journalism, whether news or opinion is distinguished by the rigorous verification of fact whose purpose, according to Kovach & Rosentiel, "is to provide citizens with the information they need to be free and self-governing."
There is nothing really truthful in journalism. Every truth is determined by the person doing the definition. In any case, the large influence of the owners in the practice, coupled with increasing self-censorship are making it obvious that this definition can no longer stand.
